full time C Venues - Volunteer Positions

at James (Anywhere)

Hi there

I am seeking various positions from FOH to Technical to Senior Management for this years Fringe Festival.

I have included a little information on participating with C venues during the Fringe to give you a better idea whether or not it is something that you would like to apply for. Our website at contains details of the positions available and what is involved, as well as information for companies wishing to perform with us and details on our season last year which may be helpful to you.

We are looking for people who are available from fit up of our venues, through the run to get out, from 16 July to 31 August (some positions begin a few days later). We ask all our team to be involved from the initial stages of building the venues, which involves creating theatres in empty rooms, through the running of them for the Festival, and taking it all apart at the end. Some administrative and press and marketing roles begin in London before the Festival.

Participating is hard work and long hours, but also very rewarding, and a great chance to lean new skills, meet people, see a lot of shows and generally have fun. Our theatres will host over 200 different shows ranging from dance, theatre and musicals to music and comedy. Our main goal is to provide the best possible service to and experience for our the visiting companies throughout their time at the Festival.

As a not for profit organisation, like many Fringe venues we do not have the budget to pay wages, but we do provide Edinburgh accommodation for the full six weeks and pay a small fee to help cover expenses, generally between £200 and £250 to cover the entire period for most box office, front of house and technical posts.

The accommodation we provide is generally in flats which are rented to students for most of the year, or belong to owners who leave Edinburgh during the summer, within walking distance of our venues. We provide beds/mattresses, but you will need to bring you own pillow, sleeping bag or duvet and towel. All the flats have kitchens and washing facilities. In most cases people will be sharing rooms with a number of other people. Unfortunately, we are not able to compensate team members who already have accommodation in Edinburgh.

We understand that not everyone wants to or is able to commit to what is an essentially voluntary project, but what we cannot provide in money, we try to make up for in experience, the chance to see the full Festival from beginning to end, and to have some fun too. Once the venues are built we do give everyone enough time to themselves to get out and about in Edinburgh, and all the shows at C venues are free to our team if seats are available.

If you have any questions, please do get in touch.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,
