Hello, my name is Sophie Boyd, I am 16 and live in Edinburgh. I have recently sat my GCSEs this summer at Fettes College. I am a chatty and out going person and I have a love of music and performing- especially singing. I also love comedy, drama and live music.

I am looking for a job doing anything really. I would really love some experience working in the festival as
I currently have no work experience but I have dedicated this summer to find some. I am in Edinburgh for the whole of the summer and would be willing to do any hours in any scottish summer weather, doing anything. If you need any odd jobs doing or have any jobs available please contact me as I will be happy to do it.

The sewing machine does NOT have to work as all sounds are recorded. It will just sit there on a small table.:)

Contract term: 19th July – 11th September 2010

Assembly sets the standard for theatre, comedy and entertainment on the Fringe, by providing excellent work in temporary
theatre spaces in magnificent buildings such as the Assembly Rooms and Assembly Hall. In 2010, Assembly’s 30th year, the
Company will create for the Edinburgh Comedy Festival and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe a magnificent programme drawn
from over 20 countries of around 100 shows in comedy, theatre, dance and music.

Specific responsibilities of this role are:

Purchase Ledger
• Allocate purchase orders
• Code invoices, seek authorisation and input into Sage
• File and maintain all purchase ledger records
• Generate payments
• Reconcile supplier statements and ledger

Sales Ledger
• Produce all sales invoices and credit notes as raised by department heads
• Post invoices onto Sage
• Provide credit control via telephone, email, fax or letter as appropriate and to alert bad payers to Finance Manager
• File and maintain all sales ledger records

Payroll
• Responsible for collating weekly timesheets
• Set up all new Festival employees
•Input timesheets onto Sage Payroll and run all relevant reports

General
• Assist the Finance Manager with duties as and when required

Person Specification
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following skills, experience and qualities:

Essential

Skills:
• To keep confidential the business of Assembly Theatre
• To keep confidential sensitive finance information
• Ability to prioritise, organise own workload and work effectively in a busy and demanding environment
• Excellent time management
• Ability to work occasional extra hours
• Highly self-motivated and able to find quick and effective solutions to practical problems
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with a range of people and environments

Experience:
• Experience of Sage Line 50 & Sage Payroll and Microsoft Excel are essential
• 2 years+ experience in a team within a theatre or similar arts/events environment

Hey I’m Ali,

I’m a 16 year old student of George Watson’s College in Edinburgh and i’m looking for any job in the festival. I’ve been living in Edinburgh for 8 years after living in various places around the world and finally settling down here. I’ve been going to shows in the festival since I arrived here and i enjoy the atmosphere that the festival brings to Edinburgh and all the different nationalities of people that come together for these great shows.

Last year i worked in at the world festival for all of August doing a variety of different odd jobs, including taking tickets at the door, handing out leaflets, working at the box office, running errands and working with the sound and lighting for 6 different shows.

I’m going into my final year at school after the summer, for the past 2 years i have been doing Sound and Lighting at my school, working with concerts that take place in the school hall and also setting up and controlling all the mics, speakers, lights and pyrotechnics for the school shows which take place 3 times a year.

I work very well in a team and give every job my full effort and attention. I’m looking for a job to take up some free time i will have throughout the summer and also to make myself a bit of money going into uni in a year.
