[full-time] Pianist Needed for Fringe Musical at Chris Ackerley - Hartshorn - Hook Productions

Hartshorn – Hook Productions need a pianist/keyboard player to perform in their Fame the Musical show this August.

You would need to be available for rehersals from this weekend and then to perform every afternoon of August until the 30th from 5.30pm until 7.00pm. This is a large scale production and is going to be something really exciting for us with a huge cast. It is at CVenues’ newley taken over theatre at George Square.

We do need someone who is living in Edinburgh or have accomodation covered and we can give you £150 for your time for the months work.
We would want a pianist who is of a good grade standard and is able to read music. The scores are available right away.

If you are interested in being a part of this then do give me a call as soon as you can because I am hoping fill this part in the next day or so. We have been coming to the Fringe for the last couple of years with our shows and they are of a very good standard, always receiving great reviews and this year’s band look to be the best we have had so it is shaping up to be a good one.

The Secret Grove – The Search for Imagination
at the Royal Botanical Gardens, Edinburgh 6th August – 30th

A chance to perform during the Edinburgh Fringe in an exciting immersive production set in the grounds of the Botanical Gardens. We are looking for enthusiastic performers who are interested in alternative forms of theatre to get involved in devising the piece and inter-acting during the run. ‘The Search for Imagination’ will be running alongside interactive art pieces and a huge range of inspiring workshops during the Fringe Festival.

The story so far… The council of the mystical city of Burghedin have lost their imagination! The future of the city lies in their hands and without imagination there will be rocky times ahead. Participants will take on the quest to find the missing imagination and return it. Along the way they will meet different characters from all aspects of life (tangible to abstract) – frogs, trees, vegetables, city workers, thinkers, doers, musicians, anger, a butterfly, the heart, historians, the wind…etc – in a journey which will reveal hidden perspectives and encourage a pro-active approach to learning. Can we save the city from a dull, monotonous future?

Contribute to the development of the experience in your own way and within your own time commitments – we need individuals who can devise their own characters to weave into the narrative. We are also looking for those who are interested in taking on larger roles.

You can commit from as little as 1 day per week to performing during the whole run.

A great chance to work on a fun, creative volunteer project with lots of exposure during the festival run.

Hey guys and girls, I’m Will.

I’m a sessions musician seeking to play during the festival, mostly for the experience and the joy of performing to people. I play the drums, (jazz, rock, indie, big band, acoustic) and most other forms of percussion, the guitar (electric, acoustic, rhythm ), the bass (both electric and upright), the piano (jazz improv) and I also have a wide vocal range in terms of styles.

I have a couple of my own bands in which i write my own music and have performed in front of crowds ranging from small acoustic gigs in front of 50 people, to large scale electric gigs in front of up to 4000 people so performing in front of big and small crowds is second nature to me now. I’m passionate about my music and am dedicated to putting on a performance for the crowds no matter what size the crowd is, what genre of music or what instrument I’m playing.

As an originally classical musician i have a fundamental understanding of music which is key for me to be able to adapt my playing to any band i play in. I have sessioned for a number of bands already including The Obvious who are signed to Lakeland records.

Whatever you guys need in your band I am sure I have the skills to help you out. I also have a lot of experience setting up equipment and sound checking. Don’t hesitate to ask any questions.

Female Ballet Dancer Required for Short Film – age 20-40 years

We are a collection of media professionals and student film makers coming together to create a series of films about Edinburgh, as a love letter to our city.

The films are based on poems and will form part of “This Collection”

Shooting
We will be filming in Dance Base at a time to suit the dancer; we can work around their schedule.

We aim to shoot before July 31st

The filming will take 2 hours approx.

Screenings We will showcase the finished film in festivals as a collective and at various events (e.g. Mcewan Hall) where poets and filmmakers get together in and around Scotland and internationally. We will also showcase it as part of the Edinburgh International Fringe and they will form part of an academic compilation about adapting poetry into film to be launched in 2012.

THE POEM

A Lifetime
For twenty-eight years I have been watching these swans
rise into the air;
with their wings they beat the trees and canal bank into pieces
as they lift themselves up.

You say that everything will be restored afterwards,
and it is taking you a lifetime to say this.

As the swans rise into the air I turn to kiss you,
but you are watching how the stone you have thrown
remains in the sky.

The poem’s story explores relationship between a lady and her husband who looks after her.

ROLES

HUSBAND and WIFE (MALE AND FEMALE 50-70’s)
These are non-speaking roles but there will be great scope for an actor to express themselves subtly through body language. This will also allow the actor have great input into character development. We will develop character through workshops and rehearals.

NARRATOR (FEMALE 50-70’s)
The narrator represents the disabled wife. She expresses her frustration of her illness and of the rift that has grown between her and her husband. The actor must have a Scottish Accent and can also apply for the wife role, although the narration will be recorded on a separate day.

SHOOTING SCHEDULE
We aim to shoot on a single day on either 17th or 18th July and do pickups the following weekend for a few hours on either 24th or 25th July. The narration will be recorded in an evening and we will work around the actor’s own schedule.

Although the role will be unpaid, we can provide catering on the day, travel expenses and also a final copy of the film on DVD.
